The El Paso Lighthouse For The Blind offers training, resources, and services
to provide the
blind and visually impaired with access to the same opportunities
and quality of life available to everyone around them. The
Lighthouse works with individuals, their families and the community
by focusing on the needs, goals and capabilities of each client and
on removing physical, economic and social barriers that affect their
quality of life.
El Paso Lighthouse Profile
- Established in 1934 at the request of the Texas
State Commission for the Blind.
- Programs and services primarily funded by
private contributions from individuals, corporations,
foundations, and by fees for service.
- Serves individuals in El Paso County and the
following Southwest Texas counties: Brewster, Culberson,
Hudspeth, Jeff Davis and Presidio. Also, individuals from
Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico.
- Works with people of all ages and specializes
in working with people with age-related vision loss through the Brown-McAfee-Smith
Elderly Blind Program.

Vision Clinic, Stern
Ocular
Services Clinic, Rehabilitation Services, McKee
Foundation Assistive
Technology Center, Radio
Reading Service, Fred T. Hervey Library, and Resource Center.
- In-home training provided: Independent Living
Skills, Orientation and Mobility.
- Providing employment
opportunities at the Lighthouse and in mainstream jobs.
- Educating sighted people to new concepts
concerning vision loss.
